FATY's Limerick Contest: Results

In honor of our St. Patrick's Day show on March 16th, we asked our listeners to submit original limericks for a chance to win a $10 gift card to Starbucks.

We received two submissions, both from my (Alyce de Carteret's) mother, Joanne. Who could have seen that one coming? Congrats, Mom!

As promised, here is her (very good) St. Patrick's Day limerick:

A leprechaun up in a tree

Decided to try to tease me.

He tempted with gold.

Of great riches he told.

Then, POOF, with his gold he did flee.

I told you it was good! :) She also submitted this more esoteric limerick:

There once was a cat named O’Jerry,

Whose demeanor caused all to be wary.

He showed up one day

On the pretense of play,

Then remained to make all of us merry.

This one is about our cat, Jerry. He showed up on our doorstop one day and decided to make us his family. We love him, but he is a huge jerk.

Don't be fooled by the cuteness. He is evil!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this year's entries! Mom may be our default winner, but I think we can all agree she is truly deserving.

Don't forget to tune in next week for more of our special Old Time Radio Showcase! FATY will return to our regular schedule on Sunday, April 6th.

Old Time Radio Showcase: Episode 1

From Across the Yard and Sports Talk are on hiatus this week and next due to Spring Break (much-needed, I assure you!).

So today (on this lovely Easter's afternoon), we took advantage of this rare opportunity to experiment with our programming. If you tuned in at 12:30 expecting to hear WHRB News, you instead had the chance to listen to the first of our Old Time Radio specials, including Abbott and Costello, Dimension X, and Gunsmoke. If you missed today's showcase, you can listen to it in its entirety here: Old Time Radio Showcase: Episode 1.

NOTE: As this showcase took the place of both FATY and Sports Talk, the show is an hour and fifteen minutes long instead of the usual half-an-hour.

Next Sunday we will air the second (and last) of our specials, so be sure to tune in! We will be airing episodes from some classic series including Escape, the Bickersons, and the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.

If you enjoy hearing OTR on WHRB's airwaves and would like to hear more in the future, let us know! Email our Program Director at pd[at]whrb[dot]org.
